The 28th Annual VSA Playwright Discovery Program
Is now accepting scripts/applications with an April 16, 2012 deadline.

The VSA Playwright Discovery Program invites middle and high school students to take a closer look at the world around them, examine how disability affects their lives and the lives of others, and express their views through the art of play writing. Playwrights may write from their own experience and observations, or create fictional characters and settings. Scripts can be comedies, dramas, or even musicals-be creative! Young playwrights with and without disabilities are encouraged to submit a script. Entries may be the work of an individual student or a collaboration by a group of students.
A distinguished jury of theater professionals selects scripts from up to five students as recipients of the 28th Annual VSA Playwright Discovery Award. Award recipients receive a $1000 cash award and a trip to Washington, D.C. over Labor Day weekend, 2012, to participate in workshops with theater professionals and peers, and participate in the development and presentation of a professional reading of their work on stage at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, with the possibility that the reading will be broadcast live via the internet and then archived for future viewing.

T&T this weekend!!!!

Just a reminder that this coming weekend we will be out at Camp Thunderbird, don’t forget to RSVP.

If you liked doing the "Wailing Woozy" (teeter totter game) you’ll love this weekend’s events, we have a number of fun and challenging team building games planned as well as a number of social games. There will also be an important meeting for those wishing to attend the Summer Trip, so please make sure to attend.

A word on attendance, we know everyone gets busy and it’s not always possible to make every event, but remember that every time we meet you have the opportunity to learn something important. Responsibility is one of the most important characteristics that employers are looking for and your attendance can be an example of just that responsibility. For the next few months before you start work experience and leave on the summer trip you will need to learn a number of skills to be successful during those experiences and we are offering the training and information to make you successful.

We hope to see you there,
Your Youth Services Team

Happy New Year!

Welcome back everyone! We are looking forward to this New Year and have made arrangements for some really great activities in the coming months.

So what are we doing???
We are back at Camp Thunderbird next week, Jan. 13-14th and we will be having some great classes available for everyone.
We’re also looking forward to having elective courses once again (Dance, Music, Culinary, and Aikido). Our firs elective day is Jan. 28th at the New Hampshire office, remember that with both Elective days and Camp Thunderbird you must always RSVP to be able to attend. To RSVP please contact Chris DeBonis at 407-898-2483x248 or E-mail: Cdebonis@lcf-fl.org

And don’t forget summer!
That’s right, summer is closer than you’d expect and we are already gearing up for a great summer program. This year our goal is once again to get everyone to work, and to have some spectacular activities on top of that!
If you are really interested in a specific work experience, please get in touch with a staff member so that we can follow up and help you get that placement.

Remember to participate.
Yep, summer is a great time, but it isn’t anything without the skills and training that goes on during our regular activities. In addition you also are earning points at every activity you attend so students who want to have all the luxuries (like picking their roommates) will need to have earned enough points from going to events.
But don’t worry it’s not too late to earn those points! Just start attending events now and by summer you will have plenty of points to do everything you would like to.

See you soon,

Youth Services Team

Wow, what a great trip!

Whew...!  Now thats what I call a good trip. Staff and Students toured the great state of Georgia from Macon to Atlanta and were able to have a number of good learning experiences.

We would just like to thank our Hosts at Georga Academy for the Blind in Macon, who were nice enough to let us stay in their dorms and even use their Wii! We would also like to thank Atlanta's very own "Dialogue in the Dark" for giving our students a unique and one of a kind experience. Our students learned a lot over this trip about planning, budgeting, difficulties of travel, and most importantly themselves. We had a number of great discussions and break-out sessions where students were able to really explore their own abilities and build confidence and skill.

Stay tuned to the website as we are planning one last event before Winter break! As always students are welcome to suggest any places they may want to go.
